I’ve outsourced programming needs to many development firms over the years, from single contractors to larger groups, though I’ve never come across a company quite like QAProSoft. Instead of finding myself responsible for specifying, tasking and management, QAPS has found a ingenious way to seamlessly provide this level of service - riding on top of the FTEs we have working on the actual code. A business analyst works with me to understand our road map and applies a broad vision to make sure the team is executing properly. A managing partner is always available to make sure any blocks are removed and production continues smoothly. Our code ends up very scalable and conforms to best practices. I can’t recommend this group enough to any startup or established firm in need of quality developers who can be counted on to stick with a project and deliver world-class results.

Situation preview

Stanford University, number 3 in the The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, is dedicated to finding solutions to big challenges and to preparing students for leadership in a complex world. TriPointLab, the team within the Stanford School of Medicine, was looking for an innovation partner to create Learning Management System with VR/AR capabilities.

The project is of high complexity: real-time multiplayer education in the virtual space means complex network logic, as well as the subject field requires most medically accurate 3D modelling, largely derived from the real human data.

Solution

Qaprosoft was selected for its strong R&D department, part of which has become the core of TriPointLab Engineering.

Our team built a product from initial idea to live enterprise solution on the fresh top-industry tech stack. Pushed by the deadlines dedicated to Apple ARKit release, our team had to iterate under short cycle delivering portions of working product to dynamically adapt product vision and requirements.

We had to take risks and build the solution on the super-fresh technology stack, however it paid off with reduced budget and increased feature capabilities. Besides general AR/VR tech, we also used computer vision AI for object detection on the live video to identify which students participate in surgery practice more.

Result

Stanford University got an ultimate product corresponding all the value from the initial vision.
The resulting solution contains:
  1. VR clients for desktop (Oculus) and mobile (IOS, Android)
  2. Mobile AR clients (IOS, Android),
  3. Admin tool for professors (models, scenes and tour management) which provides faculty with the ability to curate the content and directly correlate to daily or weekly topical learning objectives.
  4. Complex backend
  5. Provide real-time analytics
  6. Solution for recognizing activities taken in surgery practice room.
  7. Solution for exhibitions and museums (3d desktop / VR desktop

Continuous co-operation

The client got initial feedback from the students and has a lot of ideas to implement next. We’re happy to help on that mind-blowing project and looking forward for long-term co-operation.

Example of system components

Kiosk application – is exhibited At The Tech Museum of Innovation with a 10-year contract.
AR application for students so they can preview all the elements available for the lecture.
Desktop application for professors so that they could customise the models and distribute to the students.
